I used to go to a large non-denominational church that was really a mixed bag of charismatic, evangelical, word of faith, emergent etc.  It didn’t fit totally into any category but it had bits and pieces of many of the false movements today.  You see this in Christians too, a mixed bag of different beliefs all mingled together. It really is no wonder with all the “Christian” channels on television and books in the “Christian” book stores.  They seem to be a mixed bag as well; one can become very confused watching and reading what is available to and marketed to target the “Christian” audience.  This is very dangerous to a Christian who doesn’t bother to study God’s word and do a little research into the people he or she is being taught by. 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— Ephesians 4:13-15″ They come away believing everything and believing nothing about the bible at the same time.  We have “Christians” running around believing they are Joel’s army, made for war, speaking to mountains, using “Christian” spells, binding and loosing everything under the sun doing yoga, meditating, chanting embracing other religion’s for the sake of unity and getting along.  They don’t even realize they are all headed back to Rome.  But those of us that are blowing the horn of warning that the wolves are in the fold are told that we have religious spirits, we are dividers, Pharisees, critical and the list goes on.  Why?  Because they don’t adhere to Sola Scriptura, Scripture alone.  They judge what is right and wrong based on their own thoughts and ideas and not God’s word.

“For there will be a time when they will not put up with sound doctrine, but according to their own lusts, they will heap up for themselves teachers, tickling their ears, and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to myths. [2 Timothy 4:3-4]”

During my time at this church I began to question some things that didn’t line up with God’s word.   One of the things that really bothered me was the constant crying out for Revival, and fire to fall.  I don’t mean personal revival or the spring time camp meeting, or even the kind of revival where people are repentant and sorrowful about sin, I mean  rain down fire from heaven, signs and wonders corporate revival.  The kind where people are laying all over the altar, slayed in the spirit. This was evident by the amount of people from this church that flocked to and defended the Lakeland revival with no warning from the pastor. Now please don’t misunderstand, I want to see people’s lives changed by the word and see people have personal revival where they are repentant and hunger for God and his word more than anything else.  I want to see my family and friends saved and walking with the Lord as much as anyone else does but the  kind of revival that they were praying for constantly didn’t seem right to me.  I was really bothered when they would talk about God sending a latter rain, a great awakening, an end time revival but when I would read God’s word it speaks of a great falling away, apostasy. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that day will not come unless the great falling away comes first, and the man of sin is unveiled, the son of perdition 2Thess 2:3“ I would look for this great awakening in my bible that they were talking about but I still kept coming back to the falling away.  I also wondered why Jesus said: 13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because[a] narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.  ( Matthew 7:13-14). How is this great multitude from this great awakening going to fit through that narrow gate?  This all made me so confused, why was the pastor speaking of these things that were not so, that didn’t line up with the bible?     My bible also says that Satan is the author of confusion, so if this is all from God why is it all so confusing?  It’s confusing because it isn’t biblical!

And because lawlessness will increase, the love of many will grow cold. Matthew 24:12

For false christs and false prophets will be raised up, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even the elect. [Matthew 24:24]

But know this, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men will be lovers of  themeslves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, not loving what is good, traitors, headstrong, having been puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from these people turn away! [2Timothy 3:1-5 ] knowing this first: that mockers will come in the last days, walking according to their  own lusts.[2 Peter 3:3]. [2]

See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name saying, I am the Messiah, and will mislead many'” … “Many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many”… “For false Messiahs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders; so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect” (Mt. 24:4-5, 11, 24).

There are many more things I could write about that didn’t line up with God’s word but I will save those for a later time.  I would advise you if you are in a church like this please pray and ask God to start revealing the truth to you, check out what you are being taught to see if it lines up with God’s word or if it’s a bunch of man made doctrine taken from scripture that is out of context.  I know how hard it is to walk away from a church, your pastor, your friends and sometimes even family members.  Just keep in mind your pastor is only a man, he is not God.  We aren’t’ going to ride anyone’s skirt tails to heaven, we have a responsibility to make sure we are being taught the truth, and if we aren’t we need to go find it.  Don’t be concerned about what people will think of you, worry about what God thinks of you, His opinion is all that matters anyway.  It is terrifying to be blacklisted, unliked, called a Pharisee and it is even more terrifying to look for a true bible teaching church that isn’t wrapped up in the latest movement.  But don’t be afraid, fear not for Jesus is with you!  HE will lead you and guide you and show you the way, just trust and obey Jesus.

There are several others that visit this blog that have similar stories to mine, there are more of us out here than you think, my blog as well as other blogs on my blogroll are a good resource to keep you informed and hopefully offer you some help if you are in a similar situation.   Be a good Berean, search the scriptures day and night to make sure that what you are being taught is so. Acts 17:10-11
10 Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea . When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
