I have heard the following taken out of context many times by pastor’s who want you to believe that if you speak against them or someone they follow you are a divider and offender.  If you leave their church you are marked as a divider and offender.  When you try to warn people or bring false teaching to light they label you as a divider and offender.  Well dear “Pastor” you might want to read the verses again because it turns out that if you are preaching contrary to the doctrine of the bible, the doctrine of Jesus Christ then you are the divider and offender!

People get anxious when they see others leave their church, they want to know what happened, what was wrong?  The “Pastor” doesn’t want you to know the truth as to why they left, he doesn’t want you to follow them and make his numbers and offering go down, so he lies to you and tells you that they were dividers and offenders, they got offended or they backslid!  Most people I know that have left the church I left didn’t leave for those reasons.  No quite the contrary they left because the doctrines were contrary to the doctrine which the bible teaches and they left because the bible tells them to avoid such men.  So the next time your pastor makes excuses for the constant revolving door in his church and uses this verse completely out of context I want you to remember what it really says.   He uses his good words and his fair speeches to deceive the hearts of the simple when he should be preaching a  gospel that is worth dying for, a gospel that sustains you even when it’s all you have left!

Romans 16:17-20 (King James Version)

17Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

18For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

19For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

20And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
