I put together a little piece on this topic a few weeks back, you can read it here. I wanted to post some more scriptures that I read yesterday that also blow these false teachings out of the water. I usually use the NKJV version of the bible, it is my favorite version, but I have recently been reading the ESV version so I am going to post the same scriptures in both versions. Just to give you a clear picture of what is being said. Please pay close attention to the portions of scripture that I underlined and made bold.
Colossians 2:6-15 (New King James Version)
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.
Not Legalism but Christ
11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
Colossians 2:6-15 (English Standard Version)
Alive in Christ
6 Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
8See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. 11In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
So after reading these scriptures we know that when we are saved we are made alive together with Christ, he has forgiven allour trespasses, he canceled the record of debt that stood against us with it’s legal demands. He set it aside and nailed it to the cross, He disarmed the rulers and authorities and he put them to an open shame triumphing over them in him.
I don’t know about you guys but I happen to believe that Christ finished the job on the cross. And does it not discount or lesson what Christ did to suggest that Christians can be cursed or possessed by demon’s? Does it not put Christ to shame when they suggest that he didn’t cancel all of our record of debt, all of our trespasses? It’s almost as if they suggest that he wasn’t powerful enough to do it all that we have to finish it for him. Furthermore, the enemy can’t lay one hand on you without getting permission from God, Satan had to get permission from God to sift Job, so how in the world can the enemy enter you, light and darkness can’t dwell together!
Christian if you believe that you have to do something more beyond what Christ already did on the cross then I’m sorry to tell you that you are believing in a false gospel, another Jesus. If you believe you can be possessed by demon’s and be cursed for what your ancestor’s did and pay their penalty then you are trusting in a false gospel, that is not the gospel of Jesus Christ!! Because my Jesus, the son of the living God, maker of Heaven and Earth finished it on the cross!
